The building was built to house the offices of the Customs and Immigration branch of the federal government. The building is located on what was originally a spit of land in close proximity to the major wharves. The Second Empire structure features a double façade looking out to the harbour and in to the town. The building also had a tower overlooking the waterfront. Minimum age to book at the Customs House Inn is 19 years of age. Arrival and Departure Customers may check-in as of 3:00 PM on the day of arrival. Customers are asked to vacate the room not later than 11:00 AM on the day of departure. Cancellations, Late Cancellations and No-Shows A booking may be cancelled without charge 24 hours (3:00 PM) prior to the scheduled day of arrival. In the event of a cancellation after the deadline for free cancellations or a no-show, a late cancellation or no-show fee in the amount of, unless otherwise specified, the first night including HST may be charged to the method of payment indicated as the booking guarantee. Transfer of Reservation If, at the time of arrival, the reserved room is unavailable for any reason, the Customs House Inn reserves the right, at its option, to relocate the customer to a comparable room in another location. Non-Smoking Policy The Customs House Inn operates a strict non-smoking policy in its premises, including, but not limited to tobacco, cannabis for medical or recreational use, and e-cigarettes. Customer shall be liable for any costs, loss of earnings and/or profit or damage to a room, premises or property, arising from failure to comply with this policy. The Customs House Inn reserves the right to charge a specialist cleaning fee of $300 to any customer who violates the non-smoking policy. Fee is subject to change.
